Kerryn’s Story – Preserving Heritage with Integrity

Kerryn, founder of Hunter Archaeology, combines local knowledge, archaeological expertise, and cultural insight to deliver accessible, high-quality Aboriginal and European heritage services throughout NSW.

The Story Behind Hunter Archaeology

Kerryn’s journey into heritage work began in an unexpected place—while training horses in the United States. Surrounded by diverse communities and cultural landscapes at an international facility, she developed a deep curiosity for cultural anthropology that led her to begin university studies in Florida. This growing passion for understanding people, place, and history eventually brought her back home to Australia, where she completed studies in Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Southern Queensland and the University of New England.

Since then, Kerryn has built a diverse and grounded career in cultural heritage, with a particular focus in NSW. She has consulted for both government and private works, including positions supporting Defence and Schools Infrastructure projects, as well as larger projects such as Victorian Murray Floodplain Restoration Project and Snowy 2.0. These roles sharpened her skills in archaeological assessment, stakeholder liaison, and compliance reporting, all while deepening her commitment to preserving cultural values within development contexts.

In 2024, she founded Hunter Archaeology, offering Aboriginal and European heritage due diligence services tailored to the unique landscape of the Hunter. With a strong local knowledge base, full insurance coverage, and a practical, hands-on approach, Kerryn delivers accessible, high-quality heritage services with integrity and care.
